As an RV enthusiast in Ontario, winter is a difficult time to get through.
You are probably already booking campsites at Ontario Provincial Parks, but the landscape remains covered in snow, and spring feels still far off. Then, the spring RV Show announcement appears in your inbox, and suddenly, the RV season is just around the corner.
After months of cold weather and cabin fever, it’s time to take your RV out of storage, shake off winter dust, and head for fresh air, waterfalls, forests, and shoreline sunsets. Whether you’re new to RVing or a seasoned road warrior, Ontario’s vast landscape offers countless places to explore, camp, and reconnect with nature.
Getting Your RV Ready for Spring
If you’re an experienced RVer, you might already have your spring to-do list dialed, but if you’re experiencing your first spring with your RV, this list is for you. Before heading out, give your RV the attention it needs to ensure a safe, smooth adventure.
Pre-Trip Checklist
- Inspect the exterior: Look for cracks, leaks, or other damage that may have occurred during storage.
- Check the tires: Cold weather can cause tire pressure to drop — get them checked and inflated to the recommended PSI.
- Test the battery: This is often a spring culprit. Make sure your battery is fully charged and holds a charge.
- Plumbing & tanks: Flush and sanitize water systems and check for any winter freeze damage.
- Safety gear: Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, check your fire extinguisher, and restock your first-aid kit.
- Appliance check: Run the fridge, furnace, water heater, AC, and stove to ensure they’re functioning before you embark.
Taking the time now prevents headaches on the road and makes more room for fun when spring fever hits.

You can find everything you need to plan your Ontario RV adventure here - RV Touring Ontario.
If you prefer campgrounds with more amenities like full hookups, swimming pools, etc., these four campgrounds showcase the variety of landscapes and experiences Ontario offers: from serene lakeshores to beaches and forested Highlands.

Veilleux Camping & Marina – Northern Ontario Wilderness & Lakes
Nestled beside Lake Pivabiska just north of nearby Hearst, Veilleux Camping & Marina combines rustic northern charm with plenty of outdoor adventure. This campground offers full-service, wooded RV sites, great for spring through fall, plus a convenience store, restaurant, marina, and beach access, perfect for picnicking and evening campfires.
The chain of lakes here gives you tranquil paddle spots, fishing, kayaking, and boat rentals right on site. Some of our favorite local attractions, Heritage Sawmill Marketplace for local history, the Galerie 815 for local art, and the Rheault Distillery, located in a family home for local vodka. If you want to experience the area’s wilderness, Mylène at Follow Here North will be happy to show you around.
Providence Bay Tent & Trailer Park – Manitoulin Island Beachfront Camping
Set just steps from one of Ontario’s most beautiful sandy beaches on Lake Huron, Providence Bay Tent & Trailer Park on Manitoulin Island draws RVers for its unbeatable location and relaxed vibe. With serviced sites, showers, a dump station, and easy access to the beachfront boardwalk, it’s a great spring or summer destination for families and couples alike.
There’s a store on site, and the nearby village offers plenty of local eats and outdoor activities. Nearby, be sure to visit Huron Fish & Chips and grab a coffee at Providence Peace Cafe. Being an island, nothing is too far away, and there is so much to explore on Manitoulin Island.
In the evening, taking a stroll to the waterfront to enjoy a sunset is a must.

Nearby, you’ll find High Falls, Silver Falls, and Sandy Beach on Lake Superior, perfect day trip options to stretch your legs and explore waterfalls, rugged shoreline, and forest trails. Be sure to visit the town of Wawa. Our favorite spots are Wawa Beach, the waterfront, and, of course, a selfie with the Wawa Goose. There is no better way to experience Lake Superior than some time on the water, and Naturally Superior Adventures can show you the way.
South Algonquin – Daiva RV Resorts – Highlands & Lake Camping
Daiva RV Resorts operates a network of beautiful campgrounds across Ontario, and their South Algonquin location is a stand-out for those wanting lake access and easy gateway access to Algonquin Provincial Park. We loved our stay at South Algonquin.
Expect waterfront sites, hiking trails, canoe and kayak rentals, and plenty of outdoor activities just outside your RV door. Access canoe routes and hiking trails in the south end of Algonquin Park, canoe across Benoir Lake or Kingscote Lake, explore the York River up to High Falls, or go horseback riding with South Algonquin Trails: this is classic Ontario backcountry with the comforts of a friendly RV resort.
Whether this is your first time with an RV or you’re returning to a cherished spring tradition, Ontario’s vast open spaces, diverse landscapes, and friendly campgrounds are calling. Get your rig ready, book early (especially for peak weekends and May–June dates!), and let the spring warmth guide you along scenic backroads.
