What are the best road trip movies on streaming?

Is there anything better than hitting the open road? A road trip can help you discover more about the country you live in, or simply about yourself.

Road trip movies can be a journey of self-discovery all their own, The Streamable has compiled a list of the seven best road trip movies and where you can stream them below!

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

This cult classic movie starring Johnny Depp follows Raoul Duke and his attorney, the aptly-named Dr. Gonzo. They set out across the desert to reach Las Vegas, and as they travel they continue to take the drugs they’ve brought along with them at an alarming rate. Soon, they’re not sure what’s real and what isn’t; all they’re sure of is that Sin City is the place to be.

The best way to stream “Fear and Loathing” is by renting the movie on Prime Video.

Sideways

This movie centers on Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church as two middle-aged men who are drowning in their own ennui. Instead of confronting their problems head-on, however, the pair decide to embark on a booze-soaked trip through the California wine country, determined to find some philosophical answer to their troubles.

“Sideways” is available to stream with a 30-day free trial of Hulu.

Little Miss Sunshine

This movie is packed with stars, headlined by Steve Carell as a suicidal uncle who feels his time is up. Dissuaded from attempting to off himself again, he decides to join his quirky family on a cross-country journey to help his niece enter into the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. What will each of them learn about themselves on the trip?

Prime Video is the best way to watch “Little Miss Sunshine” via streaming, as you can rent or buy the movie.

Joy Ride

This one is definitely you don’t want to watch with the kids. Packed with foul language and irreverent humor, “Joy Ride” centers on a woman named Audrey, who must make alternate plans when her business trip to Asia goes awry. She enlists her three best friends to accompany her on a road trip meant to teach them all about friendship, and overall self-love. It’s a really heartwarming story, but it’s packed with R-rated comedy as well.

You can stream “Joy Ride” with a subscription to STARZ.

Rat Race

Packed with stars from the early aughts, “Rat Race” is a hilarious comedy about making easy money the hard way. It centers on a Las Vegas casino magnate who decides to entertain some of his wealthiest customers by stashing $2 million in a locker, then compelling six ordinary people to chase after it by promising they can have it all – if they get to it first!

Rent or buy “Rat Race” on Prime Video today.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

This isn’t just a great road trip movie, it’s a fantastic holiday flick as well. It centers on a marketing executive named Neal Page (Steve Martin), who just wants to make it home to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family. Delays and other obstacles force him to travel with the irritably cheerful Del Griffith, and soon the pair find themselves in a series of adventures and follies that have to be seen to be believed.

Cars

This Pixar classic tells the tale of Lightning McQueen, a race car whose will to win is essentially unmatched.
